Accounting Society Bus Trip!

21 Oct

Spend a day learning about multiple career paths in accounting (Public Accounting, Private Accounting, and others) for only $5 by signing up to join us on our annual Indianapolis Bus Trip. It is never too early (or too late) to learn more about different career paths.

We will be taking a bus trip to Indy on Friday November 8th. We will be making three stops but will be interacting with most likely five different employers that will cover a wide range of accounting career paths.

Our stops will include

1) Remy International http://www.remyinc.com/. Remy is a large manufacturer of motors, starters and alternators. We will hear from one of their accountants who is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and take a tour of their manufacturing facility. This is a great chance to hear about private accounting, see a manufacturing facility and learn more about being a CMA.

2) Blue and Company http://www.blueandco.com/. Blue is a public accounting firm, which means they perform audit and tax work for multiple different clients. They have offices in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

3) The Indiana Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Society where two or three speakers will discuss the importance of the CPA license in various industries.

The CPA and CMA designations are two of the most recognized designations in the accounting field so make sure to attend and learn more about both.

We strongly encourage students to attend this trip regardless of how far you are in the program. This is a great opportunity to learn about the Indy job market, several career paths and potentially begin a relationship that could help you attain a job in the near or not so near future. Although we will try to maintain this trip as an annual tradition, there is no guarantee where we will stop in the future. So please make every effort to go this year and in future years so you don’t miss out.  Although is not explicitly a job interviewing trip, it is a great opportunity to start building relationships that may lead you to future job opportunities. Or at least learn more ways to expand your job search beyond Fort Wayne.

We will begin boarding a bus that will be parked outside in the Neff Hall parking lot at 7:00 AM and will leave at 7:15 sharp. We will stop for a light dinner before leaving Indianapolis and should arrive back at IPFW around 8:00 or so in the evening.

If you are interested in going on the trip, please stop by the Department of Accounting & Finance in Neff 350 to sign up. Our secretary, Jane Hirschbiel, will have the sign-up sheet, a required waiver form that each student going must sign, and will collect the $5 fee.
